My Adult Yarn

A famous pop idol once said in a magazine article that she would never consider online dating and that she had never had a problem finding a boyfriend. That was easy for her as she was drop dead gorgeous!

For us lesser mortals, seeking Mr Right, the man of our dreams, our idol, isn't always so easy. Last autumn, as Christmas drew closer, I realised that I hadn't had a boyfriend in many months, in fact I hadn't even been on a date! With the idea of not appearing too desperate, I enrolled in various local clubs and toyed around with adult education classes. I produced one or two far from gorgeous items from the pottery classes and found a really great new female friend, Jenny, at mixed yoga for beginners, but no boyfriend!

As time went on, Jenny and I decided that rather than face a lonely, loveless Christmas, we would spend the holiday together. Jenny worked as a graphic designer for a teenage magazine, "Music idol" and through her contacts in the world of publishing, she managed to wangle us a free apartment in the south of France for the festive season. We set off just a day before Christmas Eve full of apprehension and doubts of whether we were doing the right thing. After all France in December isn't exactly exotic! We need not have worried as the resort was gorgeous and the apartment was in a prime location.

Jenny surprised me with her domesticity, she happily pottered around the little apartment and was content to cook and fuss over me like a mother hen. It seemed that she was perfect wife material, such a pity that like me, she couldn't find a man!

We had an absolutely great Christmas and when the time came for us to return to England and our real lives I don't think either of us was prepared for the surge of emotion we felt. As we sat on the aircraft heading for home, Jenny leaned over and kissed my cheek.

"Thank you" she whispered in my ear. "I don't think I've ever enjoyed Christmas so much!"

Well, that did it for me, I'd never been interested in women before, but Jenny was everything I'd ever wanted in a partner, warm, affectionate, undemanding and it suddenly hit me, sexy!

I kissed her back and as I breathed in her warm, sweet female scent, I realised that perhaps I wasn't gay at all!

That was last Christmas, this year Jenny and I are returning to France, this time as husband and wife.
